Makeshift Solutions

Makeshift solutions that have been used include operators attaching a visible, unshielded light source directly to their equipment, typically in the chest area, with a downward orientation to illuminate their footpath. The tactical disadvantage to this solution is it illuminates the operators’ chest, abdomen, and legs. This, in effect, highlights the opposition forces target for them. The other current solution is a weapon light that is mounted to the Picatinny Rail orientated in the bore direction. This solution is most often used however it poses tactical problems as well. In this scenario the operator is constantly moving the weapon from the ready position to the low ready position to illuminate the desired footpath to be taken. These lights are normally very bright and the constant movement from the ready to the low ready position causes an oscillation that draws attention to the position.
